Viikko kirppisvaatteissa, osa 5 / The "Wear second hand clothes for a week"-challenge, part 5

Kirppisvaatehaaste jatkuu. Cosin villamekko oli hyvä löytö Frida marinasta viime talvena. Yönsininen karvainen neuletakki on Suomessa tehtyä MalliMaria, jalassa uskolliset mustat mieskengät. Tämä asu olisi varmaan näyttänyt vähän paremmalta ilman pipoa, mutta tukka oli niin sekaisin (lue: Nakke Nakuttaja-look), ettei pipottomuus tullut kysymykseen. 

The second hand clothes-challenge continues. I found this woolen Cos-dress at Frida marina last winter. The fuzzy cardigan is by MalliMari, an old Finnish clothing brand from back in the day. The shoes are the same old brogues I keep wearing all the time. The outfit would have probably looked better with a nice hair-do, but I resembled Woody Woodpecker when I got out of bed. Needless to say, the beanie was not optional...

Elämä hymyilee / Life is good

Pimeys on tipotiessään: meillä on lunta! Eilen taivas oli koko päivän sininen. Piipahdin kesken työpäivän myyjäisissä, joissa kaupattiin lopetetun koulun vanhaa irtaimistoa. Napsin mukaan nättejä kirjoja, xylofonijazzia ja pari opetustaulua. Oli hyvä päivä.

Bye bye, darkness, we have snow! We had blue skies all day yesterday. I swung by a vacant school where they were clearing their old teaching materials. Bought some pretty books, xylophone jazz and awesome, ancient teaching charts for mere pennies. It was a good day.

Kissaraportti / Cat report

Neljän kissan kanssa ei käy aika pitkäksi. Testasimme somessa levinnyttä "istuuko kissa ympyrään"-villitystä. Audrey oli kovin kiinnostunut jo siinä vaiheessa, kun kameran piuhaa väännettiin lattialle oikeaan muotoon. Audrey istui ympyrään alle 10 sekunnissa. Muut kissat eivät tosin voineet asiasta vähempää välittää, eikä ympyrä ole ensikosketuksen jälkeen Audreytakaan enää kiinnostanut.

Varsinainen hitti tällä viikolla on lämpimälle leivinuunin pankolle asetettu, kirpparilta löytynyt korkea kori. Illusia näyttää, kuinka naftiin koriin vääntäydytään ja pysytään lämpimänä kelin taas viiletessä.

Life is never boring with four cats. This week we tested a social media phenomenon, where people make circular shapes on the floor with tape, rope or wire, which is supposed to attract cats. It worked with Audrey, but the others didn't fall for it. Audrey sat in her circle for a little while, but hasn't visited it a second time. I guess it got old fast...

We found a cool basket at the flea market. I placed it on top of the warm baking oven, and not at all surprisingly, it has become the cats' favorite spot. Illusia squeezes in and stays nice and toasty when it's cold outside.

Nauti pimeydestä / Enjoy the darkness

On niin pirun pimeää, että hirvittää. Teoriassa pidän kyllä hämäristä illoista, kynttilänvalosta, leivinuunin lämmittämisestä, kietoutumisesta villavilttiin ja -sukkiin teekupin kanssa kun sade piiskaa ikkunaa. Oikeasti näkisin kuitenkin mielummin eteeni. Kissojen takia tuvassa ei voi juurikaan polttaa kynttilöitä eikä tuikkulyhtyjä lasketa. Leivinuuni puskee savua tupaan. Viltin kulma on kissan oksennuksessa ja villasukat valuvat jalasta. Tee pissattaa. 

Onneksi on kirpparilta löytynyt käyttämätön Arabian Kokki-vuoka. Saako jo laittaa jouluvalot? 

It's so bloody dark outside, it's not even funny. In theory I like dark evenings, candle light, the warm baking oven, wool blankets and -socks, endless cups of tea. In reality I'd prefer to see where I'm going. We can't really have too many candles in the house because of the cats. The baking oven shoots smoke into the kitchen. The wool blanket has cat throw-up on it. Tea makes you go pee. 

Well, at least I found an awesome, unused Arabia oven dish at the flea market. Is it too early for Christmas lights?

Viikko kirppisvaatteissa, osa 4 / The "Wear only second hand clothes for a week"-challenge, part 4

Tätä kirppisvaatekertaa inspiroi The Row'n syys/talvi 2014-mallisto. Simppeliä, jokseenkin neutraalia ja ennen kaikkea mukavaa. Muhkea neulepoolo maksoi kirpparilla 5 euroa, miesten villahousut ja nahkakengät euron kukin. Hurja seitsemän euron satsaus koko asuun, siis. 

Pitänee tässä välissä kertoa, että tämän kirpparivaatehaasteen aikana suuri osa asuistani on jäänyt kuvaamatta pimeyden takia. Mutta en ole lipsunut: päälläni ei ole ollut nyt kokonaiseen kahteen viikkoon muita kuin second hand-vaatteita. Jee!

This all-second-hand outfit got its inspiration from The Row's a/w 2014 collection: simple, somewhat neutral, and above all, comfortable. I paid five euros for the chunky knit. The men's wool trousers and the leather shoes cost one euro each. The cost of the total outfit: whopping seven euros.

I'm going to pat myself on the back: despite the fact that I haven't been taking pictures of all the outfits I've worn lately (it's been too dark for photos), I haven't worn anything but second hand clothes for two weeks now. Yay!

Huurteessa / Frosty

Lauantaiaamuna maailma oli valkoinen. Kaikki huurteessa, jokaista ruohonkortta myöden.

Everything was white on Saturday morning. Every single straw, covered in hoarfrost.

Pimeyden vuodenaika / The dark season is upon us

Pimenevältä näyttää jo neljältä. Otin kuvan tuvan ikkunan läpi pari päivää sitten. Heijastavat valot näyttivät lentäviltä lautasilta. Olen katsonut liikaa Salaisia kansioita. 

Taistelen pimeneviä päiviä vastaan muotilehtien voimalla. Tykkään Violetista. Plussaa persoonallisista malleista ja mielenkiintoisista jutuista. Ainoa miinus tulee siitä, että lehti haisee karsealta, kemikaaleilta kai.

The days get shorter and shorter. The shot above was taken through a window at 4 pm a few days ago. I like how the kitchen lights' reflection looks like UFOs in the sky. I've spent too much time with the X-Files, obviously.

I fight against darkness with fashion magazines - they cheer me up and take me somewhere else. I like Violet. I like that they sometimes use older models, and the editorial content is interesting. My only complaint is the smell: the magazine reeks of chemicals.
