The truth is out there

Aloitin juuri Donna Tartt'n Tiklin. Jäin koukkuun, jo ensimmäiseltä sivulta. David Hughes'n The Greatest Sci-fi Movies Never Made on seuraavana lukulistalla.

Lukemistani häiritsee Salaiset kansiot. Minä ja Chris päätimme katsoa koko sarjan läpi, alusta loppuun. Iltamme sujuvat pääsääntöisesti näin: "Katsotaanko yksi jakso Salaisia kansioita?" "Joo." "Katsotaanko vielä yksi?" "Joo." "Vielä ehdittäisiin kolmaskin." "Anna mennä." Varoitus niille, jotka harkitsevat aloittavansa saman urakan: ensimmäinen tuotantokausi on aika kamala, ja joidenkin jaksojen katsominen on yhtä tuskaa. Mutta mikä parasta: Mulder on sama vanha Mulder, Scully on sama vanha Scully, ihan niinkuin ennenkin.

I have started reading Donna Tartt's The Goldfinch. She got me hooked on page one. David Hughes' The Greatest Sci-fi Movies Never Made is next on my "to read"-list.

What's distracting my reading is The X-Files. Chris and I decided to re-watch the whole series, so most of our evenings go like this: "Want to watch an X-File?" "Sure." "Want to watch another X-File?" "Sure." "We could get one more in before bedtime." "Ok, let's do it." In case you are tempted to do what we are doing, be prepared: the first season is pretty terrible. But this is what matters: Mulder is still Mulder, Scully is still Scully, just as you remember them.

    1. Joo, tää bloggaamiseen paluu on tehnyt hyvää! Siellä kaupallisella sivustolla en tuntenut oloani kotoisaksi sitten kumminkaan. Parempi joskus huudella periferiasta. :)

  2. How funny, my husband and I have been doing the exact same thing for quite some time! Only we began before you, I think, so we're in the third season. I remain a hopelessly devoted X-phile, but I agree, they were finding their way in the first season. (Scully was so cute and cherubic, though!) Ultimately, I don't only enjoy the show for itself; it's also nostalgic for me. It reminds me of a decade which, overall, I enjoyed far more than this one. Not just for the gentler music and more spiritual, mystical take on iife. Most of all I miss the lack of paranoia. I mean, the makers of the X-Files thought they were addressing that sort of thing, but it was amiable kookery compared to how people think and behave now. They had no idea how pervasive the mindset would become post-9/11....

    1. My thoughts exactly. 9/11 changed a lot about the way we look at the world, safety, "otherness", our daily lives. I look at shows like Homeland, and how crazy it is that it doesn't seem crazy at all. The paranoia in the X-Files vs paranoia in Homeland... the difference is quite something. I miss the 90s.
